The 7 Generations Network
 Region of Waterloo

The group was formed in March 2000, following community workshops organized by the Heritage Resources Center at the University of Waterloo.

Inspired by the cultural tradition of the first Nations people, to consider the interest of the next 7 generations when decisions are being made, a group of individuals and organizations are working together to promote long-term environmental protection and a sustainable society.

Our primary focus is the environmental protection of the Grand River watershed, and the well being of all present and future members of our society.

The group has been involved in advocacy regarding the following issues:

  • The RIM park project of the city of Waterloo
  • The rezoning of prime agricultural land in N. Dumphries to become a golf course
  • The application of the city of Kitchener for an expansion of the Doon Valley golf course south of 401, on the flood plain of the Grand River
  • Urban sprawl in the Waterloo Region
  • Pesticides use for cosmetic purposes in urban areas
  • Abandoned and uncapped wells on private properties in south Kitchener
  • Plans for a new Hwy 7 between Kitchener and Guelph (over several wetlands)
  • Air quality
  • Waste management and recycling
