Questions and Answers
1. Does the City/Region need more regulations for new and future businesses to protect groundwater?
Doug Craig: Groundwater regulations fall under the jurisdiction of the Region of Waterloo. Several years ago they brought in and passed comprehensive legislation that limited the types of businesses that could operate in and near the well head sites in the region. This proposal went through extensive public discussion.
2. Do you support a bylaw restricting the non-essential, cosmetic use of pesticides (for lawn and garden care)?
Doug Craig: I need to see all the information on the issue before the by-law is presented to regional council. I do categorically support the need for an extensive, educational approach to this issue.
3. The issue of a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph is still simmering. What is your preferred solution? (ie leave existing road as is? widen existing highway? put in commuter train between K/W and Guelph? build new highway, etc.)
Doug Craig: This is a provincial issue. There has been little if no debate in the Cambridge community.
4. What are your recommendations for alternate transportation (ie bike/hike trails, buses, LRT, GO train)
Doug Craig: I initiated the LRT proposal at the region after studying the one now running in Ottawa. Also, I made initiatives at Queens Park to see the Go train come to Cambridge. This was accomplished through a "Letter of Interest" that was submitted to the provincial government.
5. What are your solutions for gridlock?
Doug Craig: My solutions for gridlock are higher densities in our core areas, the use of alternative modes of transportation with and emphasis on LRT and Buses.

Doug Craig: This can be done by setting new policies within city hall on a number of fronts such as the idling of city vehicles etc...

Doug Craig: I don't have enough information on this to make a proper statement.
